Chief Automotive Group, LLC was founded in 2019 by Gary Dodson David Andrews, and Gary McCarter. Chief's first acquisition occurred in 2019 with their inaugural store, Cadillac of Jackson in Jackson, MS. Then in August 2020, Chief acquired Hallmark Hyundai in Hendersonville, TN and Coast Chevrolet in Pascagoula, MS. The following year in March 2021, Chief acquired the Bay Automotive Group, which consists of Bay CDJR, Bay Hyundai, Bay Lincoln and Bay Mitsubishi. Nearing the end of 2021, Chief Auto Group added Crown CDJRF in Pascagoula, MS as well as expanded the Hallmark name with Hallmark Hyundai North in Ridgeland, MS, Hallmark Hyundai Flowood in Flowood, MS and Genesis of Jackson, also in Flowood, MS.
The company name originates from Mr. Dodson's father. As a teenager, Mr. Dodson began to work in his father's store and referred to his father as Chief. The name was quickly adopted by business associates, friends and family members. The legacy of Mr. Dodson's father, who worked hard and treated every customer like a lifelong friend, has been continued in Chief Automotive Group.
Mr. Gary Dodson serves as Chief's President and Dealer Principle at all locations. Mr. Dodson has over 30 years of experience in the retail automotive industry including almost 20 years with one of the U.S.'s largest publicly traded automotive retailer operations.
